Dresses and Tops for Nursing Moms
Taking care of a newborn is seriously hard work, and if you are planning to breastfeed or pump, life is just that much easier if you have tops and dresses that can be easily unbuttoned, or are made specifically for nursing.
Sometimes those nursing specific tops can be a little frumpy, so after needing breastfeeding gear for essentially the last two years, I’ve been on the hunt for options that are cute, comfortable, and don’t make breastfeeding even more difficult.
Here’s a rundown of my favorite nursing friendly tops and dresses.

ONE // Gap Maternity Double Layer Nursing Top
The Travel Staple: I’ve had this top since my son was born two and half years ago, and it’s the only nursing specific top that I’ve used. It’s a really soft cotton, SO SO easy to nurse in, and is my go-to for long travel days when I definitely don’t want to have to fumble with my shirt.
TWO // CASLON Plaid Shirt
Plaids are Timeless: I love plaid button downs and have several similar to this Caslon top. This specific top is part of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and comes in three different – really cute – colors. You can’t go wrong with a classic button down!

THREE // Scoop Neck Sleeveless Tank Top Short Jumpsuit Romper
Give Me All the Rompers: I love this romper so much! The price is amazing (Amazon Fashion coming through again!), the fabric is really soft, and it’s easy to slide off your shoulders. I’ll be wearing this one long beyond my nursing days.

FOUR // BP Button Front Knot Hem Tee
Perfect Knot Tee: I purchased this one a few months ago, but there are still a few left in stock, so if you love it, run and grab it! One color is linked here, and if you do a search on the site, at least one other color should come up.
This top is loose, comfortable, longer in the back, and perfect for a casual everyday outfit. Size down if you don’t want a very loose off-the-shoulder fit. There’s also a very similar one on Amazon here.

FIVE // Womens Waffle Knit Tunic Blouse
Great for Summer: Another great Amazon find! This one is a similar style to the long sleeve Urban Outfitters thermal, but lighter weight and sleeveless, so it works well for warmer temperatures.
Per usual, Amazon gives you a ton of colors to choose from. Size up to prevent gapping at the buttons (or wear a slim fitting nursing tank underneath).
SIX // Gap Maternity Sleeveless Nursing Dress
Casual Dress Pick: I’m a big fan of Gap’s maternity and nursing lines. I don’t own this dress – only because it wasn’t available when I was looking for more nursing gear – but it looks so comfortable and it’s specifically made for nursing, so there’s easy access (dresses are the most difficult to breastfeed in!).
This comes in black and grey and gets great reviews.
SEVEN // Urban Outfitters Oversized Thermal Button-Front Top
Comfiest Top Ever: This top was EVERYWHERE last year, and for good reason. It is so soft, comfortable, and looks great with everything, including leggings. There are a ton of colors to choose from. This top makes me yearn for cool weather – it’s that good.
EIGHT // Fluid Twill Pocket Shirtdress
Lou & Grey Fabric Always Wins: I love Lou & Grey. They consistently have the most comfortable fabrics and classic styles. This button down shirt dress is a win if you need something a little dressier – e.g. a work dress.
It can also be dressed down and worn for the everyday if you’re not back at work. It also comes in green and a really pretty gold that is great for fall.
