When I think of Valentine’s Day, I usually start envisioning the endless displays of candy in the stores, but this year, we are definitely on a quest to try to save money, and be more active.
So, instead of just going to dinner for Valentine’s Day, I wanted to come up with a few other creative date ideas to do with your partner to mark the holiday. And as an added bonus, besides getting you out together and active, these are all pretty affordable!

1. Do Yoga Together
I thought my husband wouldn’t be into the idea of yoga, but with the stress of work and kids, it’s a great release and an idea he was all about.
Taking a class together for Valentine’s Day can be a great way to take a step away, bond, and relax. Studios normally have walk-in yoga classes available, and many with no experience necessary.
2. Go Ice Skating
If you’re still in the depths of winter, heading to an ice skating rink won’t feel much different. 🙂 This is a great way to get some exercise, do something different, and feel like a kid again!
3. Date Night In
Make a nice meal (grab two quality steaks or some fish, and serve with rice or mashed potatoes and a veggie), and then spend some quality time together! I’ve always wanted to try one of those “100 conversation starter” type games, and this one is specifically for couples and gets great reviews.
So, go ahead and cook a nice meal, put away the cell phones, and get to know each other even better than you already do.
4. Go on a Bike Ride
We purchased bikes before we moved to Guatemala, and I am so glad we did. We occasionally go for a bike ride and it’s always fun and makes me instantly more relaxed. If you can go out on your own (i.e. without the kids), find a trail and get out there!
5. Take a Dance Class Together
My husband responded to this idea with, “I would do it, because I love you,” so this may not be for everyone! But, a great way to be active and bond is to do a dance class together.
Branch out! Try something upbeat like Salsa, or go a little more basic and try for a classic ballroom class. If nothing else, it will make you laugh as you trip over each other’s feet.
6. Go for a Hike
Ok, I know it may be cold where you are, but even so, bundle up and get outside! (Unless you live in a place that’s eerily similar to the tundra.) The fresh air really does wonders, and it is so nice to get out of the house, away from technology, and just be with your significant other.
If you don’t know where to go for a good dose of nature, start with looking for state parks in your area!
My top is a cute find from Adidas. See some of my other activewear favorites from them below!
