What to Get Your Baby for Their First Christmas
Celebrating your baby’s first Christmas is one of the most fun milestones and occasion, but I definitely struggled a little bit the first time trying to figure out what I should actually get an infant for Christmas, when they’re really too little to enjoy many toys, and definitely won’t remember it.
I knew I wanted to get my babies something at that age, and I wasn’t quite sure whether to go sentimental or fun. What I realized though, is you can easily do both! (And not bust your budget.)
So today I’m going to share are a few of my favorite gift ideas for a baby’s first Christmas day – from keepsakes, to some of our favorite toys that are great for babies under one year old.

1. Best Toys for Kids Under Age 1
Even though it may seem like your infant can’t really play with much, there are a few toys that are great for babies that are even just a few months old. Many of these are also great ideas for your baby’s first christmas stocking.
Here’s some of our favorite toys for one year olds and younger:
First Years Stack Up Cups
Sometimes the simplest toys are some of the best and they tend to be favorites of my kids. The First Years Stack Up Cups are great for motor skills and fun for the bathtub too. These are favorites and great for infants.
Sit-to-Stand Walker
The V-Tech Sit to Stand Walker is sooo soo good. Small, non-mobile infants love it, bc it lights up and plays music (you have been warned!), and they can open and close flaps, turn dials on it, and more.
As your baby grows, they can start using it to lean on and practice walking. Both of my kids were obsessed with this toy.
Soft Blocks
A good set of soft blocks is a must-have for any infant. I love these colorful, sensory-friendly blocks from Infantino. They’re easy to latch onto a carseat or a play chair (we loved using these rings to secure toys to stuff), and are also easy for a young baby to grab, helping them practice their grip.
For a good soft, stacking block, this set was our favorite. These are also great for practicing their numbers and colors later too.
Stacking Rings
This stacking rings toy is one of the classics for good reason. It’s easy to use, the rings are squishy, and it’s great for helping babies with their motor skills and more.
This Sassy Stacks toy is very similar, but has a lot of texture and infant-friendly colors, and also gets great reviews.

2. Best Baby’s First Christmas Ornaments and Keepsakes
I have such fun memories from putting up our Christmas tree every year and decorating it with special handpicked ornaments. Buying a christmas ornament to mark your baby’s first Christmas is a great keepsake and memory to have for your tree every year.
Etsy and Hallmark are my favorite stores for ornaments — these are a few of the best, personalized baby tree ornaments.
Favorite Custom Baby Ornaments
1 – Hallmark 1st Christmas Ornament // 2 – Ceramic Christmas Ornament // 3 – Wooden 1st Christmas Custom Ornament // 4 – Calendar Ornament // 5 – Round Glass Ornament // 6 – Custom Footprint Ornament
Outside of these adorable personalized ornaments, there are a ton of other sweet, baby keepsake items for Christmas that you can easily do.
We did this hand and footprint keepsake kit and it was pretty hilarious, because trying to get a baby to keep their hand or foot still is, um, a challenge! But this kit is easy to put together and makes a really adorable ornament and sweet keepsake.
3. Cute Christmas Outfits and PJs for Baby’s First Christmas
Christmas PJs and a special Christmas day outfit are always fun to shop for, and make for great pictures. These are always on my must-order list about a month before Christmas (Black Friday is a great time to order and get a great deal).
I love Carter’s pajamas, and they always have cute patterns for the holidays. They also never disappoint with Christmas themed onesies and outfits to dress your baby in for the big day.
They already have a few cute patterns out for the holidays!
4. Professional Photos and First Year Frames
Speaking of outfits and pictures, if you can, have professional photos done! Going to the mall and doing photos with Santa is a good, fairly inexpensive option for a few prints, which are a great keepsake and so much fun to look back on. We try to get this done every year.
If you really want to go sentimental and give a gift to both your baby and yourself, a first year wall photo collage is a great option.
I’m a scrapbooker and have worked on baby books for my kids, but it’s hard to do a full book, so wall frames are great option if you’re short on time. These frames have spots for photos of each month of your baby’s first year and are perfect for a nursery and for a big kid room down the road.
These are a few of my favorite first year keepsake frames (and all except one can be personalized!): Vintage Wood First Year Frame, Polished Gold First Year Frame, Baby’s First Year Engraved Photo Frame, First Year Photo Mat (note that this one does not come with a frame – it’s only the matting), White Lacquer First Year Frame, and My First Year Photo Moments.
5. Other Great Gifts for Your Baby’s First Christmas
Here’s a few last ideas for gifts that aren’t toys, but are perfect for the holiday season and beyond.
- Personalized Stocking – We started out with these for just my husband and myself, and then got one for each baby. They’re such great quality and I love the classic style.
- PBK My First Anywhere Chairs – We have one of these chairs and I’m planning to get a second one for my daughter this Christmas. They’re adorable, really comfortable, and the kids love having their own “grown-up” chair for their rooms.
- Baby’s First Christmas Book – A good Christmas story is always a fun gift and a great stocking stuffer to open the night before Christmas. This Disney book gets great reviews and is all about Baby’s First Christmas.
